Internet Freedom - For or Against
How can anyone be against Internet Freedom? The very concept of the Internet was based on empowering computer connections (the people operating them) robust channels of two way communication – seemingly profound free speech platform.
In 2007, we will see multitudes of legal and social battlefronts - uncovering in-place software filtering systems that selectively block or shut-down specific email and RSS/Blog transmissions; facing off against equally robust “hate” sending broadcast systems.
Investigating beneath all of the historic abuses will prove to be a meaningless gesture – for the systems that deliver online wrongdoings are surely part of the Internet’s basic foundation. Things like e-mail, simple syndication and opt-in subscription platforms. Things like spamware, firewalls, and even Intranet security space; can’t stop a smart programmer (or malicious hacker) from utilizing these very systems to strengthen an assault.
Getting ahead of the “Internet Freedom Abuse” situation will be the best thing any individual online citizen can do – and that isn’t too difficult.
First, try a circumvention site like https://www.StupidCensorship.com/. Be sure to type https at the beginning of the URL, not 'http'. Even though this site has been widely known for months, many networks have their blocking software set up incorrectly so that sites beginning with https:// are not blocked, and https://www.StupidCensorship.com/ will still be accessible.
If you have a computer with an uncensored Internet connection, you can follow these easy steps to set up your own Circumventor site. For example, if you want to get around blocking software at work, and you have a home computer with an uncensored Internet connection, you can install the Circumventor on your home computer. Then it will give you a new URL, and you can take that URL in with you to work and type it into your browser to get around the network blocking software.
Savetheinternet.com will give you a good idea of how diverse advocacy is against the Telcos and puppet politicians have all ready dug into a dynamic battle dress.
The more than 850 groups in the SavetheInternet.com Coalition also include the National Religious Broadcasters, the Service Employees International Union, the American Library Association, Educause, Gun Owners of America, Future of Music Coalition, Parents Television Council, the ACLU, and every major consumer group in the country. These are supported by a community of more than a million small businesspeople, bloggers, MySpacers, YouTubers, activists and citizens who signed petitions, called Congress and pounded on their senators’ doors.
SavetheInternet.com is busy growing awareness to large telecommunication industry player’s attempts to protect their corporate earning fields – but the well informed online citizenry is presently winning battles: Huge Victory for Real People as Telco Bill Dies The gavel has fallen on the 109th Congress marking the demise of entrenched corporate efforts to legislate away our Internet freedoms — and a stunning victory for real people who want to retain control of the Internet.
Of course, the issues and outcome have global effects. It is safe to say that the online population should be the driving force behind Internet Freedom – meaning there are enough online citizens to demand, boycott, lobby, and implement programs and Internet applications in proportions that could control all aspects of online experiences and service deliveries. But – those profit or special interest driven online citizens will try to protect their cash flows – anyway they can. That will mean that legislation or national policies (like those of China) that do not have the individual online citizen’s best interest or protection of Internet freedom in mind - will have to be dealt with.
